Plain-English definitions for the terminology used across Pitch Notes.
- Accumulator
- A single bet that links multiple selections; all must win for the bet to pay out, and winnings grow with each added selection.
- Asian handicap
- A point spread that eliminates the draw option, giving a virtual advantage or disadvantage to each team to balance the odds.
- Bankroll
- The total amount of money set aside for betting, used to manage risk and track wins or losses.
- Bet builder
- An online tool that lets you combine multiple outcomes from the same match into a single custom wager, with odds calculated accordingly.
- Bonus wagering requirement
- The number of times you must bet a bonus amount before you can withdraw any winnings derived from it.
- Both teams to score
- A bet that wins if each side scores at least one goal during the match, regardless of the final result.
- Cash out
- A feature that lets you settle a bet before the event ends, locking in a profit or limiting a loss based on current odds.
- Draw no bet
- A wager where you pick a team to win; if the match ends in a draw, the bet is refunded.
- Free bet
- A bonus bet credit you can use to place a wager; any winnings are usually returned, but the free bet stake is not.
- House edge
- The built‑in advantage a bookmaker holds in a market, expressed as a percentage of each bet that on average goes to the operator.
- In-play
- Placing bets on events while they are in progress, with odds that update as the action unfolds.
- Juice
- The commission or fee a bookmaker charges on a bet, typically built into the odds, often referred to as the ‘vig’.
- Margin
- The bookmaker’s profit margin built into the odds, representing the difference between the true probability and the odds offered.
- Match odds
- The price offered for a team to win, draw, or lose a match, expressed as decimal, fractional, or moneyline.
- Multi-bet
- A type of bet that groups several unrelated selections together, each requiring a win to yield a return.
- Odds boost
- A promotion that increases the payout odds on a selected bet, giving you a higher potential return for the same stake.
- Over/Under
- A bet on whether the total number of goals (or points) in a match will be higher or lower than a set line.
- Parlay
- A bet that combines two or more individual wagers into one; all selections must win for a payout, offering higher odds.
- RTP
- The percentage of total bets a game returns to players over time; a higher RTP means a better long‑term return for the player.
- Single bet
- A straightforward wager on one outcome, with the win determined solely by that selection's result.
- Stake
- The amount of money you risk on a single bet, which determines the potential payout if the bet wins.
- Steam move
- A rapid shift in odds or betting volume on a market, usually caused by a large number of bets placed quickly, signaling strong public backing.
- Unit
- A standardized portion of your bankroll, often 1–2% of the total, used to size bets consistently across wagers.
- Value bet
- A wager where the odds offered by the bookmaker are higher than the true probability of the outcome, giving an expected profit over time.
